Day Six - 12108

1. 8:46am
2. 2,000 words or until the power supply goes out - only have an hour left
3. Working on N, and then fire
4. 9:44, one hour -- holy cow, I wrote 2000 words. That's amazing. That's what the cafe is FOR.
5. Went fast, but still not convinced of merit.
6. Tomorrow I'll write at work.
7. Work on yard - take time, and then on fire.

Reads like I'm writing at breakneck speed, I think. That bothers me, but there's not that much I can do about that. If I start thinking about quality, I won't finish Nano. I'll think of Julia Cameron's mantra, Quantity, not quality. I take care of the first, something else will take care of the second. There, I feel better already.

Day Five - 10104

Wrote about 2800 words both at work and at the cafe with sisters at night. Didn't really keep treadmill track. But yay.

Day Four - 7304

1. 7:10am (but it feels like 8:10, yay daylight savings late this year! Good for Nano'ers!
2. 2,000 words
3. Will work on night scene
4. 8:17, 2004 words, wow I write faster when I'm not at work, with three interruptions per minute. Surprise.
5. Went very well. I wrote most of time, with some minutes out to give Digit catnip and watch the kittens play. I wrote in the front room, which is a great writing place. I somehow need to get out of my yarn room in order to Really Write. I have to be at the cafe or in the front room or somewhere that isn't my nice cushy armchair in the yarn room, where I am now. This is my fucking-around-on-the-computer chair. Not my writing chair. You know?
6. Will write tomorrow both in the morning (at the cafe?) before working the afternoon, and then perhaps a write-in with the sisters tomorrow night.
7. Will work on the P/DDonna scene, maybe more with not being alone.

Day Three - 5300

1. 06:09am, at work
2. Write for eight pages, no matter how long it takes, or until noon.
3. Keep going with getting-to-know-you
4. 08:26am  - almost 2.5 hours, 1800ish words.
5. Went really well. I'm accepting, I think, that I'm breaking the rules and writing non-fiction but I still feel like I'm deeply in the Nano challenge. Loving it.
6. Tomorrow I'll write in the morning, first thing. I'll either go to the cafe with Lala, or write in the front room if she sleeps in. Sundays are the hardest day, our only day together. Hard to steal time.
7. I'll work on the first night scene.

Hooray! And people say good things about the OCR software -- I think I'll be able to scan it all in okay. I can't wait to do it -- I'm terrified I'm overestimating my word count, but I don't THINK I am.....

Day Two - 3500

1. 7:15, at work
2. Write during breaks until or until word goal reached
3. This is where I put what I'm going to work on, but I'm following blindly right now, so no idea.
4. 10:15 - whoo-hoo! Wrote 1750 words, way faster than yesterday, but business is slower, too.
5. It went pretty great, actually. While I know this is going to be a collection of essays (ish), it's feeling more like a memoir, and a linear one at that. Not liking that too much. But that can be fixed. I need to be reading the essays I want to emulate, instead of the Edmund White autobiography that I'm reading. It's wonderful, but linear. I'm not old enough to write a memoir, and I don't want this to read like one. And the work has a hook, and it's hard not to reveal it here. I don't want to -- I want to keep it a secret for a while.
6. I will write tomorrow at work, as early as possible. Getting it done straightaway is the only way to go, and Saturday mornings tend to be pretty quiet.
7. Will work on the Getting.

Yay! Not quite on track -- I wanted to get 2000 words a day, which makes a nice cushion, but anything over 1667 is just fine by me. Woot!

Day One! 1750

Day One of Nanowrimo. Still wasn't even convinced I was going to do it yesterday -- still not convinced today that I'll finish this year. Last year I really had no doubts. This piece, this work, feels more troubling -- not as strong. With fiction, I can imagine and keep going. I can throw in a bomb blast or a car crash if I need to (not that I have), but with non-fiction (yes, I'm breaking the Nano rules), it's harder. And at the same time, easier. I'm just telling tall tales. I do that all day long. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

2. Will work for four hours, till noon, between calls and things to do at work.
3. Will work on the beginning!
4. Stopped at 15:37, 8.5 hours after I started, approx 1750 words. Have to guess, since I'll have to scan the pages in later. Spent very little of that time writing, got a second alarm structure fire which took up a lot of our time, and then it stayed steadily busy.
5. Worked on the beginning! Went smoother than I thought, although I think I'm already off-track. Oh, well. It's Nano.
6. Will work on N scene tomorrow
7. Will work at work. Seemed to work today okay.

Thank god it worked out today. I was worried I wouldn't have any time to write today -- have to go out tonight after work -- but I got it done, and it kind of made the time fly by. Not ideal, but it works.
